Anaconda is the installer tool for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora. This tutorial is applicable for their derivatives like CentOS and Scientific Linux also. This tutorial empowers you to fix the bugs or missing features in installer without waiting for Red Hat. The update image you generated is used while installing.

Anaconda update image involves updated files from anaconda itself and/or its dependents. In my case I take kudzu as dependent. BTW kudzu is a hardware detection tool. i.e., I am going to patch two files, one from anaconda package and another one from kudzu package. In your case instead of anaconda/kudzu it may be some thing else.

How to get rid of “Enter password to unlock your login keyring” prompt on Ubuntu

Ubuntu and some gnome based distros use a centralized password management tool called Seahorse, which is a GUI front end to GNOME’s keyring management system. It stores all your saved passwords, PGP keys, SSH Keys etc. used in different applications with a master password. This master password is same as your initial login password.

Usually, when you login, the keyring is automatically unlocked. But when you change your login password or enable automatic login, the keyring cannot be unlocked automatically and a prompt appears, “Enter password to unlock your login keyring”. Read more »

Configure Linux To Accept Remote Desktop Connections Over SSH

Recently I needed to configure a solution for remote desktop on a Linux server. I decided to give XRDP a shot which uses TigerVNC Server by forwarding the standard RDP port of 3389 to a port VNC is listening on. The end result is to set up a SSH tunnel that forwards local port 3389 over SSH to XDRP which is listening only on the remote localhost on port 3389 as well. Use the information below to set this up on CentOS Linux though the instructions will be similar for other Linux distros as well.

First install XRDP via the EPEL repository. If you do not have the EPEL repo installed then you can attempt to use the command below to do so or checkthis link for an updated version of the EPEL repo RPM file for CentOS Linux.

Problem:

How to port forwarding with iptables between 2 hosts on different networks in Linux?

I’ve been reading for about 2 days iptables forwarding examples and I cannot do a simple port forwarding. I got 2 machines on different networks. server1 (S1 with ip 195.21.2.41) is at my house and server2 (s2 with ip 10.234.141.126) is at Amazon EC2.

I need to forward all the traffic that goes to s2 to s1. I tried this:
